Religion 7 for Young Catholics

"Religion 7 for Young Catholics has solid Catholic teaching, but should come with a warning that it brings up the subject of abortion in a random paragraph that doesn't necessarily enhance the lesson on virtue that is being discussed. My husband and I are very disappointed, as we didn't want to explain this horrible topic to our daughter until she reached high school. She knew that it was something terrible that we pray would end, but we would tell her that we would talk about it with her when she was older. We were hoping to maintain her innocence as long as possible. My daughter was quite traumatized by the mention of abortion with the explaination that it was "killing babies." I contacted a Seton counselor about this, stating that I didn't think it was age-appropriate for my 12-year-old. She agreed and told me to contact the curriculum development department. I emailed the curriculum development department about this, and followed up with a second email about a similar issue we encountered in the Geography Skills 7 workbook. I didn't receive a response to either complaint. I believe that difficult topics such as abortion should be left to parents to discuss with their children, and not thrown in among discussion of virtues."

"In my 23 years of homeschooling, this book was one of my favorites. Written for seventh grade level, it is an easy-to-understand, concise overview of the Catholic Church's teachings of the Faith. Each of the 32 chapters is only a few pages long, and can easily be covered in a single lesson, with discussion questions at the end. The illustrations, typical of Seton publications, are in color, and are beautiful famous works of art. I like using this workbook style text for any age, grade 7 and beyond, because it is such a good introduction to the Faith. Mrs. Margaret Mans"
